Mary Simms Oliphant Early Armoire
This Early Armoire was originally from The Woodlands, a plantation in Sumter, South Carolina and the family home of Mary Simms Oliphant. A well-known South Carolina historian, Mrs. Oliphant was the author of the History of South Carolina textbook, which was used in eighth grade classrooms across the Palmetto State for more than 60 years. The armoire was purchased from Mrs. Oliphant by her neighbors on David Street in the 1940s. The armoire was brought from the home of Mrs. Oliphant where it was in the garage storing paint cans. The new owners painted it bright yellow, but it was professionally refinished approximately 40 years ago. Dimensions: 80" x 48" x 17".
